The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) is the recognised Government backed health and safety pre-qualification in the UK. It is available for suitably competent suppliers. The aim of the scheme is to save time and resources by avoiding unnecessary duplication in the first stage of competence assessment and it is used by the Public Sector such as Local Authorities, NHS, Emergency Services, Government Departments and also by many Construction companies in the Private Sector.
